In this article, we are going to rank 10 different European cities that we dislike most. It is not easy to do that but we managed to analyse things that we do not like about the cities. No.10 Berlin, Germany
We actually loved our Berlin trip that we couldn't really find much to complain about. This city is definitely worth a visit. Our favourite top sights to see in Berlin are Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Berlin Wall and East Side Gallery. The thing is, all these sites have one thing in common, just like the Checkpoint Charlie, they have a very sad historical background. It is by far the most depressed city we have ever visited.
No.9 Oslo, Norway
Oslo has given us an uplifting impression. It is full of green spaces everywhere in the city. Most of the sights we saw in Oslo were museums. These outdoor museum Vigeland Park and the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History were our top priority places to go to while we were there. The places we visited were quite empty which has simultaneously given us a dull and boring travel experience that we didn't expect.
No.8 Nimes, France
If you enjoy visiting historical landmarks and ruins, Nimes is probably a great travel destination for you. Amphitheatre of Nîmes and Maison Carrée are the signature Roman ruins in this southern French city. However, do you find them quite similar to the Colosseum in Rome, and the Parthenon in Athens? It makes Nimes more like an alternative option for Rome and Athens. Other than that, this city didn't attract us at all.
No.7 Brussels, Belgium
It looks like The Grand Place is where you must visit while you are in Brussels. However, we found this place very touristy and full of people. The Atomium and the Royal Palace of Brussels are unexpectedly less crowded. Nevertheless, many sights to see in Brussels are overrated. It was such a huge disappointment when we saw everything in person.
No.6 Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is beautiful and we totally fall in love with their national snack Pastel de Nata from the one and only Pastéis de Belém. The architectures of Jerónimos Monastery and Carmo Convent ruins are both overwhelming. The only issue we found it quite frustrating was the couvert charge at a restaurant. Some restaurants might not even tell you about that then charge you a double/triple for refilling the baskets for you without asking. That's bad, right?
No.5 Dublin, Ireland
No expectation; no disappointment. That's probably the key to everything. Dublin Castle didn't look as grand as we expected. We spent half a day in the Phoenix Park but still didn't spot any wild deers over there as everyone else does. The whole trip was a huge disappointment. If you are lucky, perhaps you should visit Dublin and see if you would be happy about the city or not.
No.4 Rovaniemi, Finland
Another way-too-touristy city in Europe is Rovaniemi in Finland. This city is where the "Santa Claus" works and lives. You get to visit Santa Claus not just at Christmas, but also any time in the year. We were very excited to see him at the Santa Claus Village after we had an overpriced reindeer ride. Then we realised that they charged us 100 euro for all the photos we took with Santa Claus was crazier and even more unbelievable.
No.3 Paphos, Cyprus
Visiting Paphos as our first stop in Cyprus was a huge mistake to us. The closest beach to the city centre was nothing like the images we saw on the Internet. We believed that any other coast-side cities in Cyprus could do better than Paphos. It is probably the only city on the list that is not recommended as a holiday destination.
No.2 Manchester, UK
This city is not really a great choice as a travel destination unless you are a big fan of Manchester football clubs. Manchester Football Museum and Old Trafford are the top sights to see in the city. Sadly, they are both related to football. The University of Manchester really is a great gem of the city; but other than that, there are not much to see in Manchester except shopping malls.
No.1 Paris, France
Paris was once our dream travel destination until we finally got there. The city has so much to offer; it kind of has everything, from the famous landmark in the world Eiffel Tower to fantasy theme park Disneyland Paris and the most romantic deck arch bridge Pont Alexandre III. Everything looks perfect in our imagination till we found out the beautiful green space in front of the Eiffel Tower has forever gone and how dirty the city is.
