You may not know that there are actually more than 7,000 languages on earth; but there are only 23 different languages that are commonly spoken across the world. 1. English

Not everyone is a native English speaker but it is no doubt the most common language in the world. This language is originally found in early medieval England. It is recognised as an official language in more than 90 different countries and regions. Therefore, if you could understand and speak basic English, travelling the world would never be a problem for you.

2. Chinese

Chinese is the most difficult language to learn; it is also the language that has the most native speakers in the world. The majority of Chinese speak their own dialects in their regions but they could still understand the standard Chinese in general speaking. The Chinese character Simplified Chinese is commonly used in Greater China while the Traditional Chinese is more accepted in other Chinese-speaking places.

3. Hindi

Hindi is generally known as Indian because it is commonly used in different parts of India. However, India is not the only country who has a large group of Hindi-speaking population, most people from Mauritius, Suriname, Nepal, Trinidad and Tobago can also speak Hindi. The Hindi character could be a headache to you; but isn't it so cool to be able to read Hindi?

Spanish is not only the official language in Spain but it is also recognised to be an official national language in 21 countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and more. It has become a global language because of the recent Latin-American music influences. You should not be surprised that if you found anyone who speaks Spanish in North America, or even in Asia.

5. French

French is the second most recognised official language in 29 different countries including France, Belgium, Canada, Madagascar and more. It has been publicly known as the most beautiful language in the world. This elegant language is not too difficult to learn if you are familiar with English. It is definitely no harm to learn a new language, isn't it?

6. Arabic

You might find it hard to learn Arabic language but it is the most common language spoken by more than 150 million people throughout North Africa and the Middle East. It is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Writing letters of Arabic alphabet from the right to the left could be challenging; but isn't it fun to do?

7. Russian

Russian belongs to the Indo-European language family and it is the largest living East Slavic language that is mainly spoken in Russia. It is also an official language in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. You may think that Ukrainian could speak Russian competently but their Ukrainian language is slightly different from Russian language so don't mix up.

8. Portuguese

Although Portuguese has a more complex phonology than Spanish, learning Portuguese is absolutely not a problem for you if you are familiar with English. This language is the main official national language of Portugal, Brazil, Macau, and more. Each Portuguese-speaking region has developed its own language style in these days. You may find them quite different from each other but they are still Portuguese for sure.
